Wearing a wedding ring for the first time often brings excitement for women. Not only do women enjoy showing everyone the beautiful band, but many feelings often come with wearing the band. A lot of women find that by wearing the wedding band they feel more comfortable in their relationship, because the band emblematizes that she is in a committed, loving relationship. Although most women see wearing wedding band as a wonderful and positive experience, men don't always share the same feelings when it comes to mens wedding band.

Since women are typically the ones that have jewelry, rings have often been stigmatized as being feminine in the Western society. Many times men conclude that by wearing a band, you become less manly. Much of this idea is the result of men's wedding rings being relatively new to the Western society. Previously, this culture didn't make use of jewelry for men.

Around the time of World War II, men's wedding rings were worn much more often. This was due to soldiers wearing them to symbolize what they were fighting for. Knowing they had a wife back home waiting for them gave them the strength to endure the disheartening conditions of the war.

In seeing our nation's heroes have men's wedding rings it allowed men to feel much more comfortable with the thought of men's wedding rings. Suddenly the rings were seen as being very masculine rather than feminine. Now men could be proud to have the rings and proud of what the men's wedding rings symbolized.

Another thing that causes men to have difficulty is the idea of what the band symbolizes. Men typically have a hard time with making a commitment in a relationship. The band ring is an ongoing reminder to the men that they must be committed to their marriage. It is not so much that men worry about cheating on their wives, but rather commitment in general is often a worrisome concept for them.

Some men have a fear of having a wedding band for men because they are concerned about it causing a danger. For example, in some hands-on jobs your finger can begin to hurt from the pressure of it. In careers where a man is at high risk for injury, there have been situations where rings have been crushed against the finger and the only way to remove the band has been to cut it off. Since there is much danger in losing the finger, it may be better not to have a band during this type of work.

No matter what your worries may be about having men's wedding rings, consider talking to your spouse or future-spouse about these fears. You might be able to come up with a compromise in only having the band at certain times, or you may find that your fears disappear just by talking about them.
